Mert Thornton, Port Angeles

1st Tenor

With a degree in Elementary Education from Northwest Nazarene College, Mert Thornton and his wife and two small children moved to Port Angeles where he became active in education: 6 years as a 4th grade teacher, 24 years as elementary school principal and 4 years on the School Board.

Three things influenced him to become a part of PMGS: 1) the message and quality of the music sung; 2) the Mission Statement of PMGS, “to help people in the community and world discover the life changing power of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ,” and 3) the dedication, caring and the striving for excellence by the director, Michael Rivers, the men and the accompanist, Penny Hall.

Mert and his wife have 3 grown children and 8 grandchildren. He is a Charter Member of Strait Men Barbershop Chorus and a member of Independent Bible Church.
